6-12 month Crochet Headband

And so the time has come to finally write down and share one of my patterns!

I loved creating this super easy headband pattern. I wanted something to send out with a pair of overalls I made for one of my photographers, and quickly whipped this up with the left over yarn. And the best part is, it can be made to fit any headsize!

This piece should measure approx. 3 inches wide and 14 inches long once finished. If you need to make a smaller size or larger size, just take off or add on rows as needed, as long as you end on the row with front post and back post stiches! All you have to remember is to make the final piece about 4 inches smaller than the head circumference.

Here is a link to a handy size chart that I have been using for years: Bevs Country Cottage

The only thing I ask from you, is to name me in any work that you share

Materials needed:

  • 6mm/J Crochet Hook

  • A soft Aran Weight Yarn (10 ply). I used James C. Brett Aztec in colour 10 (its a light grey). You could use any weight yarn, as long as your measurements are spot on. Just make sure to adjust your hook size too!

  • Darning needle to sew in ends

  • Scissors

  • Measuring Tape

  • 16mm Wooden button

Chain 1 (Ch1) is not counted as a stitch, rather a turning stitch. Stitch count is in brackets (st) at the end of each round, so count each stitch after each round.

Special Stitches

Here are some helpful links for instructions on how to do these stiches. I found these quickly on YouTube, and I hope to upload my own tutorials shortly:

Adding Button

Attach button as either end (picture B). Button will easily fit through the gaps at the other end, so even this piece is slightly adjustable if your measurements aren't spot on!

Picture A

The image to the left shows how the Ch3 counts as the first BPDC.

Picture B

This is how the final piece should look laid out flat. It is easy enough to add more rows on or take more rows off before starting the button ties.
